The Mozilla Foundation is laying off about a third of its staff. The non-profit org, which oversees the corporation that develops the Firefox web browser, insists it will continue its advocacy mission, though its approach may change.

The Mozilla Foundation, the nonprofit group that develops the popular Firefox web browser, has said it’s laying off around 30% of staff, completely shutting down its advocacy programs in the process.

The Mozilla Foundation has made steep cuts to its team. The 30 percent staff reduction will completely eliminate the nonprofit's advocacy and global programs divisions, according to an internal email sent by Mozilla Foundation Executive Director Nabiha Syed.

The drying up of the main source of income, Google, has resulted in further restructuring at Mozilla. This time, two departments are being closed.

The “relentless onslaught of change” is being blamed as Mozilla makes its second sweeping job cull of the year. The jobs impacted are from within the Mozilla Foundation, which the nonprofit arm of the Firefox browser creator and is reported to have around 120 employees.
