Dramatic footage of a Consolidated B-24 Liberator from the 44th Bomb Group (“Flying Eight-Balls”) making a wheels-up landing at RAF Shipdham in 1944. Shipdham, located in Norfolk, was the first B-24 base established in England and home to the pioneering 44th BG. Battle damage, flak hits, and mechanical failures often forced Liberators to return in perilous condition, and wheels-up landings like this were a testament to the skill and courage of their crews.
