In 1919, amid postwar Britain, Edward Elgar composed his Cello Concerto in E minor. Its premiere on 27 October, poorly prepared, was a failure, leaving the work neglected for decades. In 1965, 20-year-old Jacqueline du Pré made a legendary recording that revived the concerto. On 15 June 1967, she married Daniel Barenboim, touring globally with him.
