Janis Ian has had a long and storied career as a singer-songwriter. She recorded her first big single “Society’s Child” at the age of just 14. It was a song about inter-racial romance and received a mixed reaction in the socially-conservative 1960s. In 1975 she had another hit on her hands with “At 17”, an anthem for every awkward teenager, and in 1979 she had more success with “Fly Too High”. Over the decades she has written for and been covered by numerous big name artists, and still performs.
